Schools and Teachers

Join our awards

We want to engage with as many children and as many schools as we possibly can. These awards are open to every school with primary-aged pupils, including primary, infant, junior, special, independent and preparatory schools. Last year we were joined by 80 local schools but this year we want to reach you all!

Each school can take part in helping choose the winning books for any of our awards. There is a small charge for each award you participate in, which enables us to organise and run these awards. All income will be used solely for the Spark! Book Awards or projects initiated by us.

Participating in the awards will give you:

  • One set of the shortlisted books in the relevant categories.

  • Publicity materials (both paper and online) including our annual Buzz magazine.

  • A list of possible approaches and assorted resources.

  • Access to at least one online author event per shortlisted book, plus a bespoke introductory video.

  • A time-limited 30% discount to purchase further copies of the shortlisted books (via the Regency Bookshop).

  • Access to our competitions for pupils, giving them a chance to win a trophy of their own.

  • The chance to be named the Spark! School of the Year, receive a trophy and £100 of books for your school library.

A small proportion of your entry fee will be also be used to provide books to the pupils who need them most, via our JustGiving fund, so you're helping others too.

You can register your school by completing the online form linked below.

"The pupils and teachers at LEH Junior School thoroughly enjoyed reading all the books and we feel that our pupils gained a great deal from the initiative. It was amazing to see everyone become so excited about the books and so very engaged with their reading - thank you Spark! Team!"

Join our panels

We will be looking for proactive teachers, with a love of reading and the drive to make a difference. If you'd like to be involved in helping us narrow the submissions from publishers, first to a longlist and then to our eventual shortlist in each category, and promoting the awards in our school communities then we'd love to hear from you.

Win our Spark! School of the Year award

Each year we announce a Spark! School of the Year at our award ceremony, to the school we feel has shown inspiring engagement in every aspect of the Spark! Book Awards. This will factor in a variety of different things, from competition entries to social media posts so however you're involved let us know!

As well as winning a Spark! trophy of your own, the winning school will also receive £100 of books for their school, chosen by the school.

Use our resources

Over the year we'll be adding any useful resources we, or participating schools, produce.
