Welcome to the Spark! School Book Awards

After the thrilling success of the inaugural year of the Spark! Book Awards, we are delighted to announce that we are back! And this year, the awards are bigger than ever.

We are proud to announce Spark! 2: School Book Awards 2021-22, which will be chosen by the children of South West London and neighbouring regions, from a shortlist selected by our teachers, booksellers and librarians.

As last year, the books chosen will reflect the exciting and diverse nature of our local area. We are looking for books with heart.

Until October 2021, we are once again inviting publishers, authors and illustrators to submit books that fit our criteria. After shortlisting, it'll be down to the children across our schools to vote on and decide on the winners of our increasingly coveted Spark! Award trophies.

Our award categories are:

This year, we are also introducing a brand new category:

The age ranges provided are suggestions only - how you introduce the categories in school is entirely up to you and we'd encourage children to access as many of the books as they can. Additional details about our award categories and shortlisting process can be found on our awards page.

The winners will be announced at an award ceremony in July 2022.

Alongside our awards, we also want to make sure that there are no obstacles to children accessing our shortlisted books. We hope you will support our JustGiving fund to help us get books to children who might not be otherwise able to access them - as nominated by their teachers, once we launch it again soon.

Supporting our awards: messages from some of last year's shortlisted authors

"Being part of the Spark! Awards has been such an honour. Mangoes was written for students, so to see students read and vote for my book has been both thrilling and humbling. A fantastic award."
